Web Development Tool Helps Transform College Site
siteMpower Content Management System Empowers Ohio Valley College
May 12, 2003 (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio): A little under a year ago, Ohio Valley College was looking to improve their web site (www.ovc.edu), but the Vienna, West Virginia based Christian college wanted to go beyond the typical static web site. OVC was searching for a web-based solution that would allow its internal staff of non Web site programmers to have the ability to develop, maintain and modify the content of its Web site.
The challenge Ohio Valley College presented was the perfect fit for a new product developed by Walking Stick Communications of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, called siteMpower. siteMpower is a Content Management System (CMS) that empowers a company and its employees to manage its web site content with simple edit functions within the site and requires absolutely no knowledge of HTML or other web programming software. By allowing multiple users to administer different areas within a site, siteMpower helps create a web site that is more relevant, more up to date and easier to manage.
Walking Stick worked with Ohio Valley College to develop a customized Web site design and navigational structure that would most effectively serve the school’s needs and desires for its Web site. OVC was looking for a site that presented the school as an educational institution that offers an outstanding education and encourages the development of self-confidence, a positive self-image, and spiritual awareness. The result is a fun, visually inviting Web site, that portrays the image on the Internet that the college was striving to achieve.
With the powerful functionality of siteMpower, the newly empowered Web development team at Ohio Valley College was able to quickly learn how to add content, upload photos, add pages, and utilize a variety of other edit functions within the Web site. Walking Stick provided OVC with approximately 15 “shells” or customized page design templates, each representing a different area within the site (i.e. About OVC, Student Life, Athletics, etc.). The administration team at the college then took over to begin populating the Web site with text, photos, file attachments, relevant links, and much more.
“Our Web team has been amazed at how easy the siteMpower system is to manage the content on our site,” said Marty Davis, Director of College Relations. “As a college, we have to manage literally hundreds of pages. The interface is easy to navigate and very intuitive.” Click here for a complete case study of the OVC project.
After working with the siteMpower content managment system for only five months, the staff at Ohio Valley College has created a robust web site with over 400 pages. A team of five to ten people now has access to administer the site, and the site is constantly being modified and updated as necessary.
