We currently recommend using Google Mail (Gmail) for our clients needing email under their domain. To follow is a step-by-step guide for getting set up.
1. You must first set up a Google Account. To do so click here and choose your Edition. Standard (Free) Edition will suit most customers.
2. Once you choose your Edition you will need to enter your organization's domain name. Select "Administrator: I own or control this domain" then enter your domain name (domain.com) and click "Get Started"
3. Create an account to use Google Apps. We recommend creating a generic account first, such as "Admin". This will be the root account for managing your email. Complete the form, remembering to save the password in a safe place. Then click "I accept. Continue to Google Apps".
4. After you have registered for your account, login. You should see a notification that you need to verify that you own the domain. Click "Verify domain ownership". There are two ways to verify domain ownership. Choose the best option for you. If you are hosting the DNS at your registrar you can choose "Change your CNAME record" if we host your DNS (or some other third party) then choosing "Upload an HTML file" might be best. If you choose this option make sure you have ftp information from us to access your site. Once you have implemented one of the choices, click "Verify" You will see a message at the top of the page that says: "We are checking domain ownership. This may take 48 hours to complete."
5. You will now need to Activate your Email. Do this by clicking "Activate email" under the Email link in the lower right column. You will need to have access to your DNS to complete this step. If we host your DNS you will need to email this information to us. If you do have access to your DNS records follow the steps outlined here, then click "I have completed these steps".
6. Finally if you want to simlify the URL that you use to check your email, click the Email link in the lower, right column. Then under the "General" tab next to "Web address" click "Change URL". Select the radio button next to the custom URL. You can leave it "mail" or choose another word to proceed your domain for email. Click "Continue". Now once more if you have access to your DNS, follow these steps to create a CNAME record. Once the record is set up, click "I've completed these steps".
Once all 6 steps are completed, you will need to wait for all the information to be updated on the Google servers, this can take 24 - 48 hours. Once that is complete you should be able to begin receiving email for your domain. Then you can set up more email accounts (by clicking "Create new users").
