Scorchers Develops New Look for Its Web Site
Walking Stick Communications Develops Updated, Functional Site for Restaurant Chain
October 22, 2003 (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio): Atmosphere and service are what it’s all about in the restaurant business. Scorchers Casual Eatery and Draft House has taken that to the online world with a newly developed web site found at www.scorchers.com. With the desire to create an online presence that represented who Scorchers is, the Munroe Falls, Ohio-based restaurant chain sought the services of Walking Stick Communications, a design and marketing firm in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio.
“We wanted to create a site that looked great, and that was easy to maintain ourselves,” said Brenda Lowe, one of the managing partners of the 11-location chain. Walking Stick and its proprietary web site content management system, siteMpower, offered the perfect combination of design capabilities and content management functionality.
Scorchers restaurants offer a comfortable, sports-focused atmosphere that encourages fun, friendship and enjoyment, and the company wanted its web site to represented that. “We worked with the Scorchers team to understand who they were and how they wanted to be perceived,” explained Matt White, Vice President/Marketing & Client Services at Walking Stick. “What we created is a site that tells the Scorchers story from the moment you visit the site.”
With the implementation of siteMpower, not only can the corporate team manage the content of the web site without any web programming knowledge, but also individual franchisees have the ability to manage information on their respective sections of the site. Various levels of administration allow for multiple levels of approvals, which means franchisees can make changes to their individual location pages while maintaining the integrity of the site’s design. And, Scorchers corporate has the right to approve any changes that are made before they go live to the public.
“It’s the perfect opportunity for spreading the responsibility of content management while maintaining control of the site’s design,” said White. “Everybody wins.” Each franchisee can change daily or weekly promotions, post hours of operation, create his or her own contest pages, upload photos from the latest event, or create links to local partners. The interface is very simple and user-friendly, and requires no HTML or other web programming skills, as it is based on word processing type edit functions.
“The new site creates a great overall image for Scorchers,” said Lowe. “We believe it will make a positive impact on all our locations, as well as create new opportunities for us to expand.”
